Compliance standards for sites willing to join the SMSCG Grid

The SMSCG project is proud to have several affiliated projects and sites that have tied up their infrastructure to the SMSCG Grid. Grid users from all sites benefit from this large resource pool. In order to sustain a high availability and quality of the infrastructure all sites intending to join the SMSCG Grid need to comply with a minimal set of requirements, which are for each site:

  • abide to the SMSCG Grid policies:
    • Grid AUP [pdf]
    • Grid Security Policy [pdf]
  • adopt and comply with the SMSCG software stack:
    • operate a front-end, i.e. access gateway to the local resources, that runs on the ARC middleware version the SMSCG supports
    • install and operate SMSCG monitoring system. This requires sites to install a couple of nagios plugins, which were developed by the SMSCG (Notice, that the SMSCG project provides support for the task of installation, configuration and operation of the front-end and the monitoring system).
  • support at least one of the SMSCG VOs. For a list of the current VOs, please visit https://voms.smscg.ch.
  • name a site contact person and  deputy.
  • fill in a security questionnaire.
  • participate in operational activities, which implies react on tickets, be inline with software stack updates, attend (some) of the regular phone meetings.

The efforts to join the SMSCG Grid are not negligible. And yet, depending on your usage model (user base, applications you want to use etc.) the benefits will by far outweight the efforts.
